I aint a multibillion dollar studio with 500 employees.
Also, I enjoy the type of art that is made with my method, which I assume is how japanese comiket artist work.

That's why It looks like sovl, and doesn't look like when a top western guy does anime.

Ironically they always tell me it looks bad, but they never tell me it looks like a white american drawing anime.

Honestly, I think I am at the brink of making like a major discovery.

I used to joke my time limit of 9 weeks to finish an AAA game.
Every person used to laught and mock me.

But what if there's a fucking way to actually make a finished project with the same qualities of an AAA game, but with the cost of developing in such way, a single talented solodev can make it on 2 months, instead of needing 5-7 years?

What if I basically discover an entire new way to make a game that doesn't need like more than 9 weeks to be finished.

today i had a job interview for a network admin for a rather large mortgage company.
first, they didn't appreciate that i didn't technically apply, i sort of just added an interview for myself on the hiring manager's google calendar for today.
they also didn't appreciate that i injected my resume and CV on to everyone's computer, even the CEOs personal laptop which happened to be connected to the network at the time.

quick question about my game and people's thoughts:
should I change it to be a count-up timer instead of a count-down timer? right now, the timer counts down, there's an invisible "per delivery" timer that also goes down and affects points. on a delivery, you're rewarded points and extra time.
but it's also an endless waves of enemies type thing that starts as you make more successful deliveries. with the type of enemy getting stronger/more annoying as you go thru the game.
there are weapon upgrades and stuff to kind of balance it, but idk if a count down timer really fits this type.
it's basically crazy taxi driving with my closest attempt at a risk of rain 2 combat (in a car, obviously so it has to be different than a "person on foot" 3rd person shoot)

Countdown makes most sense for deliveries, gives a sense of urgency.

Depends on the type of game you're making. If it's at all story based then early access isn't so good but if the game's focused on replayability and the game getting more varied with each update then that seems to work pretty well for it. Roguelites, sandbox and survival games are pretty high up there on the list for viable EA titles. Of course you need some sort of minimum viable product to enter EA successfully. People need to want to play your game even if it's not ready.

>Rules for trailers:
Each game submitted must provide a trailer and a logo for their game. Trailers can be between 1 minute and 4 minutes in length. Trailers can be made within the past 4 months, trailers older than that will not be accepted. Trailers do not have to be censored, just don’t put anything in there that’ll get us banned on our platforms. Trailers will be reviewed by two admins and a confirmation will be sent to you on whichever platform you submitted on. It’s your time to shill. Put your best foot forward! We’ve had several games start in the expo and go on to be successful (not because of /v/3, they were phenomenal games anyways)! Shitpost trailers will be reviewed on a case by case basis but still adhere to the rules stated above.

Usually they're two different meshes/skeletons/animations that are played at the same time after setting (usually lerping to) the correct relative positions in engine. Easiest way is to lerp into position and play a montage on both. You can do it with sequencer as well.

More complex, cinematic animations I might consider exporting the animation with both meshes/skeletons in the same file but I would not be doing that for gameplay.

Depends what's in the header? Microsoft Visual C++ compiler is pretty flexible but changing the methods of a class I don't think it will recompile on the fly. If a class has virtual functions in the vtable then I don't think that's something it could possibly change during runtime.

though again, given the high quality of your sprites and animation, it might be a prohibitively large amount of work
i imagine that the main difficulty of putting it on app stores is screen real estate as well as controls (and possibly also content rating, but that could be handled through a reskin)

I use a unity tool called umotion pro. It works pretty well for my needs but I don't really do anything complex or intricate. pretty easy to use, not cluttered like blender, but the downside is that I think it's 80 dollars and only for unity.
I think I got it on a sale for $20 or something, and it was worth it for that price, it's the only paid asset I've used from unity
obviously if you're in unreal or godot then yeah look elsewhere. but if you're on unity, it might be worth considering. there's a free version as well but it's more limited, I was totally fine using that and only got the pro version because it was on a flash sale.
also definitely look elsewhere if you ever plan on making 3D animations for non-game purposes, or if you ever want to move back and forth between blender and animation software. it's a total pain in the ass to use unity for anything outside of game shit, especially when it comes to exporting anything that is not a game build or unitypackage file.

maybe I'm wrong but stuff like resident evil too was hand painted, when I think of textures from real world images my mind goes to tomb raider or early source games. I think this whole approach just doesn't work very well

I want to see the asteroids and shit move around more. You should make some of them special asteroids that when they take any laser damage they explode outwards.
Ah shit no wait, make it so some of the asteroids are shiny metal and reflect your lasers back at you and can kill you. And sometimes they have a core like this so you can't tell they have that core until you shoot halfway through and the shiny core is exposed

Astroid dev here; if you're trying to do something where you're clearing out fog of war to reveal waifu or something to that effect, you should look into using shaders to achieve the effect.
My method of doing what I'm doing won't suit your game well to be honest. It's heavy on computation, has several work-arounds and duct-tape, and can be tricky to understand without all the extra shit.

Try searching up "fog of war shader" and you should come across something. Can also ask in the godot server, it's a common topic.

I want to have a large amount of entities that are all separate, position, rotation, any advance script-feature.

If you look at games that do pixel perfect, you'll notice lots of limitations. Generally, the position and rotation of pixel masks are static, ie, terrain that isn't moving and isn't rotating. Worms and Noita come to mind.

Modern worms I think moved to geometric, and Noita does a blend of the 2, noita devs have a talk about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prXuyMCgbTc

I'd be interested in seeing people trying to do pixel perfect on modern hardware though.

Proceeded to go shopping for ingredients to make a dish tomorrow. First store I went in was just a quick look at prices to decide if I'll come on the return trip. Noticed a girl employee staring at me, that felt nice even though she was chunky. Went to another store and kept bumping into this slim chick shopping with her mom, we kept locking eyes, did I look too obviously at her? Anyways I didnt know spices and herbs were so expensive! Wew lad the two I bought were smaller sizes so I wouldn't cough up about 10 bucks! Next two stores were uneventful but turns out I made a mistake buying the veggies from the first store, quality just didn't compare to the second. I'm a neet whose learning to shop for more then just yummy easy to eat foods!

Rushed to clean the dishes as I hadn't done them earlier. Made a tasty salami sandwish. Finally sat down to gamedev, specifically working on my steam page stuff. I'm good with marketing, imo, but this sure is some slow work! It's past midnight now.

Any suggestions for mechanics to make descending more interesting?
Want to try putting together a platformer where the focus is on safely descending (avoiding fall damage), but not sure what else I could implement. Currently just have wall sliding (slows fall speed), collapsing platforms, "soft landing" platforms

I'm more interested in that it runs off body motion capture. Basically, I want web VR chat.

So webGPU has recently made it feasible to play games with javascript based engines. I want to create a VR chat that's open sourced using Babylon. There's a library for face and body tracking already, and so far I've only found three.js ported it. The goal is to bring web devs in to game dev and make custom mods that world creators can pick from kind of like a mod store (but free). For example if someone codes a car mod for it, then someone who designed a city world could use it, and the player would load the world then any mods the world creator put in their world. Basically the idea is just bring in tons of assets.

Actually that's webGL I lied. It's way slower since it runs off CPU instead of gPU like webGPU.

ok guys heres the deal i have to painstakingly record each sound via audacity with stereomix in game in order to remove the ambient noises i had to load up a custom map which is a debug map and record each and every bullet sound idk how im going to split this up later there has to be a way to bulk export multiple sounds but at least i found a way the interesting thing is for semi automatics if you tap the button the sound is the same but holding it down plays differnet files which sucks because i cant get the individual unique sound files so im focusing on slower fire rate weapons for now ah jinja(really?) neomu shiro(really hate it)

I have a little gimbal lock problem, if anyone has a smart suggestion I'd be grateful.

The problem:
The interface reads the horizontal axis value from Cinemachine POV, which ranges between -180 and 180 degrees. It then passes the value to a DOTween blender, which blends from start value to end value. This value is a float.
For example, start value is 30deg and player moves camera to 60deg, the blend function will interpolate from 30 to 60.

Where the problem arises is at the 'seems' of the horizontal axis, namely 180 and -180 degrees respectively. For example, input values are 170 and the player rotates to -170, the value will interpolate from 170 to -170, not from 170 to 190.

It's essentially an input problem for the blend function, which doesn't know it's blending in a circle.

The solution is parsing the value into the blend function so that it realises there are seems in the circle and it needs to account for them, I just can't think of the programmatic solution off the top of my head right now.

Help greatly appreciated.

Tauri is like Electron, but backend is in Rust instead of node.js. Is faster, less megabytes. I've started learning Rust and it seems great and easier to learn for a webshitter than sepples

Instead of reading the axis from cinemachine, keep a separate variable that tracks your rotation which isn't bound between -180 to 180 and feed that into the interpolation function. Not sure how you increment or decrement that value or what's available

My buddy recommended me Rust a while back too to get into crypto. Maybe I'll start learning it.

My hard-headedness on sticking with javascript for games is because I want to make something Open Source and have web devs drive it. Think about how web devs made NPM the largest library in the world (regardless of whether you agree or not with how much bloat it is), I kind of want something like that for game dev where if you want a quick driving mod for babylon you can just install it and tweak it a bit.

look out for the next fest. The core of our team is 3 people, no one has one specific role (we retain a lot of the 1MA mindset), but I primarily program and design mechanics, snake makes the art, writing, levels, sound etc. The two of us do it full time. Baller is the magician behind the save system, which is a real challenge, especially in unitinu.
Then there's a ton of contributors that we list on the website, extremely talented people that complement us. Quite invaluable. Hiro draws the cute marie icons, Kody rendered the UI and made some of the best designs in the game (including Marie's clothes), Bogie composed the most recognizable parts of the ost, Pinwheel created some of the most used ambient sounds, etc. Long list of contributing musicians in the game credits too.

Working on some splash art for Dreams of Joy Departed since apparently /v trailer-season is coming up.

made it so enemies that you can't see no longer eat your input. previously you could click on big enemies that were behind walls. happened all the time with maulers near doors.
also made open doors no longer block LOS or block projectiles, only closed doors do that now. gonna eventually look into projectiles destroying doors or something, that'd be fun

The art straddles an uncanny line between Good art done Bad and Bad art done Good. The faces of the characters look like inhuman weg anime done by a teenager who just got into drawing.
The tagline is not a very funny joke, I'd be embarrassed to try and convince someone I know to try the game if things like that are captioned along its promotional materials. The reason it is unfunny and a bad tagline is because nobody knows why it's funny that the Guy is white and "vaguely interested" in standing between you and eternal darkness. Should he be more, or less interested? It just doesn't mean anything to someone who hasn't already played the game, and that is who these materials should be appealing to.

each room has a RoomData script. when saving, the roomdata script takes inventory of all the things within a room, such as enemy position, enemy status, barrels, chests, etc. these details are sent to a master save script, which then converts all of this data to a serializable format.
when loading it's the opposite, the master room script figures out how many (and which) rooms need to exists, instatiate them, then fill them with their original data.

the difficulty is in getting and properly saving/loading all the data
for example, a room will have
>amount of used doors and their status (open/closed/blocked/unused)
>amount of enemies, enemy bosses, their health, status, modifiers
>amount of interactables, like chests, barrels, fountains, golden gobbos, etc. and their status.
>which walls are using a different model/texture
>which walls appear on the minimap
>variable props like blood, cracks, carpets, skeletons which are not part of the default room scenery

then you have things such as all the items in a player's inventory and all the modifier of those items, the spells and their order, any permanent buffs or maluses to the player, etc.
it's a lot of stuff

there's two main bits - the data gathering, which is RoomData and it's placed in each room, and the actual saving and loading, which is just a data serializer. the master save load scripts are all in a god object since they're independent from rooms - they receive all the game data, such as player status, which is not tied to room data.

the same logic would apply to peri - games with a ton of complex moving parts that can be changed require a lot more checks in their saving scripts.
