Why is hyrule warriors more fun than botw & totk? Like, y come Nintendo not make fun zelda games anymore? They focus on make game big for 1 number and number 4 or 5 maybe be fun. >when Ganondorf throws miasma directly at you (prologue and at the end of the Hyrule Castle dungeon) it's thick but still not solid nor gooy, he just throws some dense bright red shit at you
>as you see in the intro, the miasma is something that comes directly out of his body, but in the ending he regenerates covering himself with it
>his lair resembles not just roots of a tree extending and spreading miasma like the rest of the underground, but also a bright red core, or heart of the whole system

I think the dark red energy from Tears of the Kingdom is meant to be Ganondorf's blood. Like, *literally* something flowing throught this dark demon wizard's veins.

The previous Ganondorf wanted power, which is a perfectly good motivation for a villain.
He also had a prescence throughout the story, played his own theme on an organ, and was hyped to fight Link.

anyway, koopa is a daimaou in the sense of being a monster being with horns and shit, who leads an army of monsters, but more recently with his creepy oily black form, he starts to be getting back to his roots. IN the early game he was doing dark magic himself, rather than hiring wizards to do it for him.
and now ganondorf is exhibiting signs of being a totally supernatural being with glowy red shit for blood, so it's starting to apply in ways it couldn't as much before (but still could a little when he was a pig demon)

as someone who fucking obsesses over zelda monsters, I would say they are... flattened out. Lower highs, higher lows. There's no flat-out hideous monsters, but there's nothing beautiful either. Nothing has anatomy that makes you roll your eyes because it's so stupid, and yet nothing is quite 'right' either. Usually you get a lot more variation. Like in Skyward Sword, for every bitchin Quad Baba, you get a gross goofy obese bulbous-nosed oni Moriblin. For every creative and downright retro-looking Chuchu you get bug-eyed goofy cartoon-ass Keese, etc.

I love aardvark moblins. I also think Lizalfos being chameleons compliments their crafty and cunning nature in BotW. In TotK I also really like Gleeoks, especially those absolutely gnarly wings of them.

I like the enemy design in both breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom. They were able to show both cute and goofy enemies, and more scary and imposing ones in the same artstyle and make it work quite well.
I presume next time they will go further into detail on both the world and enemies due to increased processing power, but I hope they also consider that a painterly artstyle is rather timeless and they don't go completely overboard on tiny minutae.

I don't think there are enough types of enemies as a whole in the recent games, both variants (why don't the yiga clan scale up in different colours) and types. I hope they're able to reuse some of the enemies / animation system / physics engine for the next game so we can have more of them, because the games are only becoming more difficult to make.

I miss dungeons. Shrines are dumb. Heart containers are cool. Summoning your horse should be a song, not a paid dlc. I miss maps that were fun to explore and were just littered with 5 enemies here, 3 there to make it seem filled out. I miss games being fun to play and not just zelda-themed busy work.

Despite how big hyrule has gotten, it just feels so much smaller.

that's why Monster Hunter Rise is so great, for giving you an ability to quickly leap to your feet, but at the cost of using up one of your opportunities to do a special move. and also, if you're using a particular skill thing, it interrupts that by putting your weapons away. but at least anytime you choose to slowly get up off the ground after a hit, it was your choice.

Kind of Nintendo's fault with their $70 dlc. Hasn't even been a year and it's already dead. They were already in a bit of a spot with SS. Nothing against that game, it's a great zelda game. It just revolves around a hardware gimmick of the wii, so chances of that title being lost to time are already pretty good. BotW had a good chance. They really got rid of tons of zelda for that game, but it was still a fun enough experience to play through. TotK came out and it was just botw but with less soul and more busy work. They both had their moments, but due to the types of games they are, I doubt they will be as ageless as other nintendo/zelda titles. TotK has already aged poorly, and it hasn't even been a year.

To some extent Nintendo has always been some corpo jap stiffs, but now they finally seem to be going full Disney where they aren't interested in making great products that are popular because of how good they are, and just design their products to hit on popular interests and just packing in a bunch of broad mass appeal. Nintendo has transitioned to making disposable media and has all but abandoned the artistic side.

Although the great sea map has made me use agitha a few times already. Really not a fan of her. She's like the opposite of majora. He is kind of mid at enemy characters, but is great at everything else. Agitha can truck a enemy link like nobody's business, but the other 98% of the level is a fucking slog.

And somehow managed to traumatize myself with tingle. As soon as I unlocked him I jumped into one of the harder missions on the first map. No levels, badegs, weps, nuttin. It was a tingle limited map that had a fairy accessory and I just kinda no thoughts head empty it. Unlocked tingle, time for new ear rings.

After a certain point I was pretty committed and spent 40 mins in there trying to kill shit with the same basic combos. Got my ear rings though. Now whenever I have to use him I just get immediately upset and angry.

I like the gameplay, it annoys me that people attack that. It's the rigidity, linearity, and lack of interconnectivity between areas that bugs me. Also the subpar music in a lot of places.

I'm a really big fan of zelda's rapier. Might be my top pick for light warrior. I'm just not that big of a fan of Link's S&B moveset.
Ganondorf is taking my dark pick. I really wanted to give it to skull kid because of how great his c3 is at crowd/keep clearing and how great his c4 is at melting giant bosses. His c6 is good for captains/characters if they don't block it and push themselves out. His c1 and c2 are pretty mid, just better stuff to do, buy what really kills him is his bugged out c5 that can send a boss way up in they sky forever. While ganon has dead moves, c2 & c4, his special meeter mechanic puts him out ahead since he's still great at everything skull kid is excellent at.

Think Ganondorf is gonna be the one I work on gaining new levels with. His lvl 2 greatswords are all the fuck at the furthest possible path from the start on the great sea map.

I dreamed there was an additional 4 bosses you had to fight to awaken someone's abilities as a sage. They'd get a third eye on their forehead that opened, much like zonai.
The fights involved all four sages. Sidon had to defeat a water-based Gleeok, at first with only its heads above the lake, then flying around the arena. Tulin had a giant kraken-like snow Octorok. You first had to defeat smaller versions, then Teba and the spirit of Revali would join you for the final phase. Riju had a seahorse monster that would tunnel into the ground and attack from underneath. You first had to remove its sandy cover to damage it. Its second phase would break its armor completely and reveal its thunder abilities. I never got to Yunobo's fight, but the quest log mentioned the boss' name was "Mini Volvagia". Mineru just didn't exist.

On a related note I'd like if we had layered armor options, I'd like to run the Charged set or Depths set without losing the 50% damage buff from Barbarian armor, which even in the endgame is priceless in how it preserves your weapons.

Then you have to activate the ability, aim it, and either hit it with an arrow or your sword, all while it spreads muck all over the place in Mucktorok's case or flies around, summons gibdo and whips up tornadoes/sand beams in Queen Gibdo's fight. Gohma is considerably easier, but you still have to take Yunobo's trajectory into account and the shape of the arena.

yeah the depths needed 'caves' of sorts, the way the overworld had these unique features that had a few unique enemies and collectibles (horriblins, mayoi) though obviously it would be a bit cruel to have an equivalent of that frog gem hunt underground.. That was their biggest issue I think, they knew it wasn't feasible to scour every inch of the depths, so they deliberately didn't hide too much in it except the very unnecessary like costumes

There's a severe lack of art depicting gerudo women crushing hydromelons between their thighs. Perhaps even as if it were a competitive sport amongst the gerudo. What happened with ToTK? Even /v/ has seemingly forgotten about it. Every GOTY thread is about Starfield/BG3 shitposting with ToTK just relaxing (even if it will probably win on Zelda name alone. Though my money is on BG3 because it's the current hot topic). Was the game a disappointment to you guys?

I played it, enjoyed it, though admittedly I never completed boTW (got bored after the 2nd divine beast) and I never completed ToTK too but for what it was, it was a decently fun sandbox game. But holy shit, it's like this game died out in a matter of weeks

Yeah, theremin. Those. Yeah, it was for practical reasons like that & they also thought it'd be too weird for players. They still wanted the music to be produced from Link's body movements so they went with the conductors wand and kinda just had it work as a reverse theremin, making music as it moves through space, rather than as something moves through its space. It's a lot easier for players to take the magic music wand for granted.

Remember that central room where you raise the water, and then you have to drop down into a hole in the floor? basically 90% of players thought "well now that the water is higher, I can climb higher!!" and climbed higher, and went out the top door, and.... had to start over. some of us did that over and over and over. it's designed in a very cyclical way, and it takes so long to get back to each place that you forget what to do.

Definitely. Plus, a conductor's baton is an easier thing for players to recognize, and the idea of conducting the winds isn't a new one.
You'd basically have to have a theremin that is self-powered and floating to be able to use it on the fly, not that those properties are unknown in this series. I'd make for fun songs, though.

eh then you have to rewrite NPC dialogue and stuff.. they clearly had a certain mood in mind that required you to not be an entourage.
that said, it's hilarious how they work when the physical people are your partners, because they don't have proper animations for jumping long distances or climbing, so the game waits for you to move the camera and then teleports them over with a jump sound effect. if you keep the camera on them, they stay there forever.

I feel like there were some parallels that already existed that you didn't need to alter. In OoT, when you go north out of Castle Town, that's the hill in LttP that Link's house is on. The ruins to the south in OoT are the ruins of old Castle Town.

In LttP, the are in which the Desert Palace appears, has a lot of similarities to the place in OoT in which the Colossus is located. Even the small water features and Great Fairy location. Of course visually the Desert Palace looks very different than the Colossus, but it contains the same essential theme of having multiple entrances and exits up high, such that one can be accessed from the other.

There’s a schizo thread on /vr/ right now but one of the anons has a really huge write up of cool OoT oddities, tips, etc.

Twilight princess doesn’t allow their relationship to develop. With Midna gone Link is free to do as he pleases. My headcanon is that Zelda will probably seek him out. She seems like a forward kind of girl.

Tears of the kingdom had an enormous amount of effort placed on the physics, interactions between things (fuse, AI, items and the environment and new game objects).
It was incredibly impressive and what they made was excellent, and extremely well polished; there are a lot of improvements to like over breath of the wild.

The problem was, was that there just wasn't a lot of the stuff that people were hoping for from a traditional sequel.
People were hoping for:
>a lot more enemy types (this is one of the big ones)
>further differentiated bosses
>further expansion of the map in interesting ways
>more aspects of dungeons (differs per person)
>interesting lore and exploration of the zonai
>a revamped combat system
>a story that would build off of breath of the wild and take into account the events that happened

It feels like a lot of these things happened to a minor degree, or with a significant caveat. I think people's hopes for the game just didn't pan out as they wanted; even if specific things did.
I just hope that next time, they will be able to reuse the work that they put into the mechanics and physics and put more into other areas.

There is also the fact that it is just genuinely unpleasant to talk about on /v/ because you get swarmed with negative opinions about everything. I think this would be somewhat inevitable for any zelda game like breath of the wild, no matter if it was god's gift to mankind or not.
