Reached level 70 in D4, uh is there something I should be doing until I can take on UL besides Helltides and Repetitive ass Nightmare Dungeons? I have never gotten a single good item from the Tree and am convinced that it's useless and this Hearts quest line from the Season also seems like another useless grind thing.

I finished the battle pass and I'm still not fully sure how the hearts work as far as getting better ones.
They do have some really powerful enchantments or gameplay modifiers (whatever you want to call them) but they drop out in the world too not just the malignant tunnels. Idk if you need to progress the malignant storyline to get them at all or if they start dropping right off the bat.

I was watching Rob carry people on Twitch, he was trying to carry people at 75, but they would keep dying and couldn't get the achievement. So he gave up on them and asked everyone to be level 90+ so they have some chance of surviving for the kill. In short, you need to be alive when Uber Lilith dies; Varshan is a joke.

posting this for reference. crafting was overhauled and any magical or rare item can be used. jewels can be broken down to jewel shards to stack and also be used for crafting. new crafted stuff is way better especially now that mercs can wear boots/belt/gloves.

I want to give it a chance, but trying to play this game is like being kicked in the balls, repeatedly. It really seems like developing this for consoles instead of PCs (like every other Diablo game) will turn out to be the kiss of death for it.

The best are colorless Wrathful type, which are rarer. But if you progress the seasonal questline you are directed to a boss fight and tunnel that is more likely to have the colorless ones drop. I have three middling shitty hearts that i don't even care about since my build just werks

Too much development time was wasted on voice acting for a nigger that will be immediately dumpstered, instead of remembering core functionality like resists or what stats we lost with no gems in jewelry and hot fixing armor in last minute. These devs are absolute retards.

Like how could you not include D3' communities, social buttons or profile browsing lmao. I don't know how many people actually searched my profile but I tried to make it look cool with dyes and pets, and played alts as a result.

Malignant battle pass gear looks alright, I don't regret levelling to the mid 60s to get it, but the Journey is so devoid of rewards why would anybody bother lol. Even D3's journey system is paced better with actual cosmetics. But this is a SERIOUS game, without silly cosmetic pets or wings or banners, harumph harumph harumph.

Too many devs, all out of touch, don't play their own game with any competency, and never played a previous entry in the series in their lives.

I laughed a little when colon Rod said that most of the developers raised their hand when he asked if this was the first thing they'd ever worked on, then I was sad. This game was hyped as the return to the old ways, the team was back together and gonna make something that would rock the world. It was gonna be D2 but with all the evolutions of the genre over the years. Then this shit happened...

D2 has way less affixes than D4 yet itemization is orders of magnitude more interesting. that's because D2 affixes are general not conditional, aka their power is straight forward and very noticeable, which makes the player feel more powerful. in d4 you have dozens of affixes that are "3.7% damage if you hit a burning enemy while taking a shit when it's sunny outside". it's utter fucking garbage.

It doesn't matter though, since it'd take a competent dev team to avoid turning it into MMO rotations, D3's 20,000% problem, or even the D4 sorc builds where they do absolutely shit damage outside of staggering the boss.

It's blizzard hubris that they know how to develop games when they dont anymore. They keep using the same shitty tricks but they get away with it because they were once a big popular brand and people hope they will do a 180 and stop doing these shitty practices that ruin the gameplay.

The only reason d3 is in a playable state is because they wrote off the game and put it into maintenance mode so they stopped micromanaging it as a way to get income. There fore the devs built systems that were fun instead of for profit and didn't waste the players time in unfulfilled ways.
Like you know day 0 diables on xp farms on launch but druid getting barb unique for weeks. They are just a dogshit dev team now that are on the level of EA incompetence and greed.

I can name all the capitals for the regions for the same reason as you, spending the majority of time in them. Beyond that I remember Tur Dulra since it was the Druid location to access Boons and Backwater because I enjoyed the quest line there. That's about it.

You have to admit though, even if locations in the game aren't particularly memorable, the art style is better than previous entries which is a pretty low bar given this is like, what, 12 years after D3?

it's d2 in its finest form if you can get past the graphics. although they are introducing even more shaders this season to customize to your liking. i love d2r but i've played vanilla diablo thousands of hours now over the past 2 decades. pd2 is fresh and has so much qol stuff + end game map generation. it's the total package for arpgs.

paragon boards provide plenty of choice, there just aren't enough of them atm and they also need to make legendary nodes stronger. they need to start adding more paragon boards.

the skill tree is fine, the problem is that the game has very few aspects/uniques that meaningfully change a skill's gameplay. this is the real problem and one that will take time to solve.

basically D4 will be in a good spot by the end of 2024.

Just decided on a whim to join the helltide with 20 minutes left, wandered around, got 250 embers and looked out out of game where to find a Mystery Chest, the only thing worth opening in these shit events. Find a map while keeping moving, eventually triangulate where it should be, see a chest flicker in and out of range on mini-map. Get to it in the last 30 seconds of the Helltide and ghosts are gently tapping me out of the opening animation and the fucking thing despawns because I couldn't kill the ghosts in time to open the chest.

Everything in this retarded game just wants to punch you in the balls for no fucking reason. What's the fix for this scenario? I should have looked for Helltide sooner? Not run dungeons and watched 3rd party sites that tell you when the dogshit is live? I'm half not mad just because I know the chest was going to have probably nothing I'd even wear, but the indignity of losing the cinders and everything just phasing out is fucking insulting. I've been experimenting with a druid power where wolves become werewolves and spread rabies, the wolves actually generate rabies on their own hits, you don't have to have the rabies power, but the rabies from wolves don't spread. Also it's pathetically weak because rank 1 rabies if I had it would be 2K poison but my buffed up mainskill Creeper puts out an 18k poison, so fuck that.

When you have to get the battery to open up the door, before you put it in if you go back down into the room with the testubes where you shot the one regenerator guy in there sleeping for the side quest, it repopulates it with those spider enemies and that bull head guy who gives you treasure to sell. A lot of mechanics can be summed up easily, just look at the "lead dev's" face during the campfire before the "buffs". Dude is in way over his fucking head. The only part of the team that is professional is the network team, given how decent the launch was with the amount of traffic. Everyone else involved are niggers who don't deserve a salary.

Nope, they're afraid of pet builds and have been since D3. They group them into their "no passive gameplay" philosophy because botting I guess. The unfortunate reality is, if they maintain the pace of 1 aspect per class and a few neutral ones per season, we're in for a rough fucking ride in terms of viable builds. No amount of number tweaks can save what's already in the game.
Like I want to make a Rabies build, I have only 2-3 viable aspects to choose from. Only 2 paragon boards that feed into it and 2 uniques (Fleshrend is a bit of a stretch but it counts I guess). Wouldn't poison centric werewolf support make more sense than storm skills? Wouldn't playing spells be more tailored to staying human? I just don't get it.

It doesn't just go for blood. It's all builds, every build in the game benefits from stacking crit and crit damage. The game is built in such a rigid way, that the only meaningful mechanics are your two multipliers, Crit and Vulnerability.
Even after the massive nerfs, it's still the only way to scale your character effectively. The game is fundamentally broken on such a core level, that I'm not sure it can ever be fixed.

The new season gimmick will suck anus and be boring after a few hours, but they'll big it up as revolutionary and "highly replayable". Despite the stat nerfs, everyone will continue to play Twisting Blade rogue since it's better to play a class that moves fast and kills than moves slow and kills.

the problem is managing aspects is clunky. if they make it like the division 2 where all aspects can be recorded in the codex and when you find higher rolls it just updates your aspect on the codex, it would be great.

There's no vision or philosophy aside from FOMO. FOMO the MTX, FOMO the expansions, FOMO the season passes. Season 1 was the season to tighten everything up while it was still running, effectively and even more open beta test or live PTR. They stopped and dug in their heels and immediately FOMO'd season 2. With D2R and D3 now in maintenance mode, I wouldn't be surprised if they've moved a great deal of focus to D:I for the GaaS model and D4 will be treated akin to WoW by pushing out expansions to keep interest cycling instead of seasons.

i'm assuming barb? frenzy is a great way to level. maxroll has some good leveling guides for classes that can loosely be applied to pd2. leap barb looks fucking awesome for farming later with a big fucking weapon. it doesn't need attack rating either i think.

Last Epoch is pretty good but my recommendation would be to wait for 1.0 unless you're really desperate for something to do. The update speed has been too slow and their endgame is pretty lacking without the merchant guild and circle of fortune.

if you want just an economy reset in an unchanged game, d2r. pd2 offers A LOT of new things to experience however. overhauled crafting with corruptions and puzzleboxes goes a long with itemization. end game maps and new items give you so much to work towards.

What's important is player microtransactions engagement. THAT, is what will really put a battery behind their asses and get them to work. These kinds of games have a quarterly quota that they need to meet for MTX engagement. That's what's really going to hurt them. The game might have a lot of players compared to other ARPGs, but almost none of them are buying MTX for this broken ass game.

Diablo 4 is such a shit game for one fucking reason... The moment you beat the main quest, it's literally over. Everything after this is just repeating the same dungeon over and over until you are level 100.

After you finished a few dungeons you realized they are all the same. Kill monsters, walking simulator, kill boss. That's it. The only meaningful difference is the xp/hour, that's why you only run the same dungeon over and over.

The fastest xp/hour dungeon gives you the most xp and the best gear. Outside of being a fucking wagie (for free) and doing the renown or farming the world boss for the mount, there is ZERO reason to do anything other than the best xp/hour dungeon. Dungeons feel all the same and every other content is even worse. The only reason world bosses are even interesting is because of the "group content" where you see other players, but that's it. After you have your renown and your cosmetic mount, there is literally and unironically not one reason to do anything else to get to 100 other than the same fucking dungeon over and over.

This is why Diablo 4 is so garbage. Season 1 has changed literally nothing. You only have three more gems to farm, but the general rule to level up is still running the same dungeon over and over.

Now of course you may say "You do NM dungeons to max your paragon board" and you are right, BUT, NM dungeons are literally just dungeons which make you hate yourself because their gimmick is the most unfun and tedious shit you can imagine. You love corpse explosion? You love get hit by a shitty attack if you stand still too long? You love other shit like damage reduction that makes your lose 50 % of your dps? If you don't love this shit, then you will hate NM dungeons.

So yeah, D4 end game is either doing the same dungeon over and over, or doing shit NM dungeons which make you hate every second of playing D4.

I'm only level 40, but I'm not having fun.
I don't really understand why. The environments are pretty, the combat as a rogue is all zip zap dash splash, the lore's cool.

At that point you have most, if not all, of your important skills and the only skill points left are just small passives that don't change much. not only that but scaling becomes very apparent after level 40 because you're in a lull of not getting anything of use out of your skill tree and not yet being level 50 so you have no paragon points either.

i really fucking hate the 40-50 grind. it's a soul sucker

kotick immediately canceled D3's Expansion #2 and 3 after RoS didn't sell as much as they wanted.

RoS was a well received expansion and even it wasn't enough to save D3 from maintenance mode.

I feel like starting a season in Diablo 3 is the most fun part for me, or in PoE, or other games of such a nature.

For me, the magic disappears once I become an unstoppable wrecking ball which blasts through thousands of enemies at the speed of light, and you can win with the monitor turned off, or the only thing which could even remotely be referred to as "skill" is how quickly you react to FNAF-like jumpscares with your health bar.

I guess I just want a good hack and flash game like this where you don't turn into PacMan. That's all these Diablo-like games are in their endgame these days, a glorified PacMan simulator where the mobs may as well be stationary dots and shrines are just power pills and the ghosts are Chica and Foxy its just so damn dull and soulless.

Please tell me there's an exception out there.

the dopamine from the power spikes and gear you've been looking for to complete your build is what makes playing new seasons fun, that said d3 gets you to those power spikes way too fast so it gets boring after a few days into a new season

i generally like the pace of gearing up a new character in d2r but it's so reliant on playing a non dogshit build because hell can just wall you way too hard if you aren't playing in groups

Ask someone in-game to go to the pvp area to trade kills. Go ahead and kill each other 20 times or whatever since you get the higher tier version of that done for the season as well as unlocking some special titles. I got lucky and found someone that did it for free, but had offered 5 mil gold before it wasn't trade disabled to get it done.

I hate to be that guy but I genuinely have no idea how PoE got so fucking popular when the game is quantity over quality

Too much shit is so fucking unfun and having your resistances fucked by 60% after finishing the campaign and forcing you to balance them out isn't good design at all

invuln pot, scroll of escape and I didn't even use either so far. such a stark difference between poo and d4. when I play hc in poe I feel like I'm always about to die, here I sometimes don't even realize it.

As a long time player maybe I can shed some light into it. Originally PoE was designed to appeal to the D2 audience. The combat gameplay wasn't as good but the mechanics supporting it were interesting and that got it the initial following. Over the years the combat got better bit by bit as they worked on the netcode and the engine but on top of that a lot of powercreeping happened and the game slowly devolved into what became known as the speedclear meta. I would say that's around the time when streaming started to pick up. And with the release of the 3.0 update the game started growing in popularity. By that point what was appealing about it was clearing screens in a single click. And they kept pushing into that direction until the devs realized they've gone too far and started slapping player power with a bunch of nerfs. And now we're multiple updates into that nerf cycle. We've gotten some things back like defenses were reworked and the flask system got one as well so you could say that the game's in a better state than it was ~2 years ago but it's in a real shitty state compared to what it was 5+ years ago.

I went on a bit of a rant there but if you ask me the reasons that led to its popularity would be

Seasons give the players a reason to start over and anyone who's played D2 ladders knows how much fun that can be. On top of that having regular new seasons feeds into the streamer and content creator hype cycle. PoE gets a lot of content on youtube leading up to a new season and over the first month of it. In that sense it is a successful GAAS I hate that term. Today it really gets by on that hype cycle and like >>448144259 says, addiction. Many have been playing it for years and it's just a thing they do now when a new season comes

Understanding D2 deeply helps and that goes for any D2 mod but I think PD2 is rather well suited for a less knowledgeable player if you don't get into the whole endgame grinding loop. Set up plugy with PD2 and play singleplayer. You can hoard all the interesting stuff and reset skills whenever you want to try out new things. On top of that the PD2 crafting is great for making gear on your journey. Set yourself a goal like killing Baal on Hell and strive to achieve that and then you can quit playing or make a new character if you feel like it.
