Was NGBC that bad? I know people shat on it a lot at the time, but I like it in spite how how low-budget and sort of janky it is. Love the soundtrack and backgrounds.

if they didn't muck up the dlc shenanigans to begin with by having most of it be recycles

it had an okay roster that had some interesting outlier choices in some places
but it felt like an 00-era kof game with not-quite-kizuna tag features and a stupid cinematic stock doubleteam volleyball attack and some other stuff
it was just underwhelmingly unrefreshing mechanically and felt like a rushjob just to get something out there

Something I just realized with CoTW: MoTW was set back in 2006 so will SNK have to remember to keep CoTW within the 2000s (with how technologically different things were then compared to now)?

Do remember this is why Capcom stopped using the birth years assigned to the characters in Street Fighter II for later SF games: to avoid physically aging characters like Chun Li and to appeal to modern-game gamers as shown with Street Fighter 6?

Will SNK avoid that by making CoTW a deliberate 2000s period piece, gamers' feelings about that time period be damned?

Also, now we know that seeing Ash can restore a character's memories of him, filling in the gap left by the bruised space-time continuum when Ash was erased. For the Sacred Treasures, their memories are returning more slowly; for Duo Lon, who was in close proximity of Ash for a long period, his memories returned immediately. Elisabeth was the only one to remember Ash before his return from space-time oblivion.

There is literally no reason to not hold down when she's doing unchain. Grab does 50 damage and sends Angel to the corner. Without the overhead her unchain isn't off the chain at all.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA. Anon it's complete dogshit, there are no consequences anymore and the timeline is now center stage over character development. I'm not even against multiverse shenanigans, the way MK9 handled it by making a demigod see the echos from a Earthrealm failed timeline complemented the reboot, but now the Kronika shit along with the titans as well as mortals becoming gods show that the writers have turned Mortal Kombat into Crisis on Infinite Earths. Netherrealm Mortal Kombat has the most mismanaged story I have ever seen in my life, and that's saying something considering the train wreck Star Wars is after the buyout by Disney.

Just to add to the website thing. They will have 25 prologues after the next character releases that would fit about 140 pages of text. That's the amount of story content that's out of the game, most people probably don't care but it would add a lot to the "story/arcade" mode to have this there and voice by the characters.

To this day I can't wrap my mind around this Verse/Reverse plot. The story was never amazing writing, but with every other villain you knew what made them tick and what they tried to achieve. XIV looked like it had one plot cooking up, then for XV they scrapped it all and threw in something really vague that barely holds together.

This is not true, we constantly see background stuff with the Ikaris, Adelheid and the Investigation team in XIII's story. As well as dialogue between Ash and those from the past. In XIV it's literally just a normal tournament till barely explained [UNINDENTIFIED CREATURE #1] appears. Same with XV except it's [UNINDENTIFIED CREATURE #1] again and [UNINDENTIFIED CREATURE #2] with again zero explanations.

Don't make me even get started on getting the Sacred Treasures back just to do nothing with them.

Ash Saga was a brick wall of a story arc that leads nowhere and none of the characters matter except Ash, who retconned himself from history which means he also retconned the previous events and his own importance. Without XIV being tied into his time paradox, KOF ends in the most uninspired way possible and makes anything post-2002 a moot discussion. All XIII did was make it insufferable to talk about Ash because he's the only thing these games did for the lore

Everything XV does is tied to Ash's actions in XIII and give them more consequence and impact. Without XV, XIII is a net zero for KOF. Just because it's not hype doesn't mean it's nothing. Your ignorance at story comprehension really shows with your criticisms
