ultimate's neutral is boring to watch because of balance reasons. the top 10 most played characters are in 80% of all matches and they almost all have the most restrictive and braindead neutral flowcharts ever

melee's neutral is boring because 95% of players who are even competitive are all tech skill with rotten fundamentals. yet melee has without a doubt a better neutral, mechanically, than ultimate even with it's significantly shallower roster

He's at Sumabato SP Ultimate this weekend which doesnt have that much competition besides Miya, Rizeasu (relevant because Rizeasu beat him before), Yoshidora and Asimo.
Then next week there's Delta 5 which is sort of a reverse Riptide. Only 267 entrants but decently top heavy: Sonix (who is coming to Japan on that week), Miya, ACola, Shuton, Kameme, KEN, Hero, Asimo, Gackt, Yaura, and a few dangerous players under that like Sigma, Jogibu, Nao, Neo, Toriguri and Hurt.
Kagaribi 11 is on October 7-8 and currently has 1536 attendees with registration closing on the 19th. However I can't find anything on whether or not they got a venue that lets them afford to go above 1024 entry cap like they usually do, so that extra might be just viewers (If that sounds dumb, do consider that more players needs more setups whereas more viewers needs more setups and the space to accomodate them which is more than a chair or even the ground)

Sparg0 has a 8-13 record (38% winrate) in game 5's in 2023 counting only ranked events. This is the worst record among top 15 players on Lumirank with Tea being the only other one with a winrate under 50%. Tea's record in game 5's is 8-9 amounting to a 47% winrate. Tweek himself has a 16-9 record (64% winrate) in game 5's.

Another interesting (but probably coincidental) thing is that Sparg0's game 5 record in events that take place in Mexico is 5-0 while his game 5 record in events in other countries is a pretty abysmal 3-13 (a 19% winrate).

On the other end of the spectrum you have Riddles who has a 80% winrate in game 5's with a 28-7 record and Acola having an absurd winrate of 89% in game 5's with his record being 16-2. Furthermore, in the last 6 months Acola has a 12-0 record in game 5's.

Yeah, but it doesn't have anything that the public version doesn't. It will just set the delay to 3 or 2 automatically, but it doesn't block it, meaning you can still change it to whatever you want.

for me i know the mod disables vsync on smash's startup so for my display and my eyes i can see screen jitter when i scroll down as fast as possible through a long song list like mario.

my display is 1ms so that might effect this test. i noticed the song list scroll not being smooth anymore when i enabled less-delay so i always use that.

PM has some fun casual stuff with a few of their item tweaks and the allstar mode. You'll never see it because PM events don't exist any more, but it's pretty fun. Ultimate is probably the best bet though due to stage and character variety with whatever items and of course how accessible it is.

the strength of defense and doing absolutely nothing when you have a stock lead has been a recurring problem in every smash game. nobody likes fighting it. nobody likes watching it outside of the novelty of "haha neither of these guys are playing the game in a competitive match"

They shouldve done rollback and delay based depending on what you want. Have For Fun and For Glory return with delay and rollback respectively, and make it so arenas without certain elements (Stage hazards off, no items, no Smash meter, etc.) would be rollback. That way everyone wins, items and hazards stay usable and theres still rollback for people who want more serious matches.

i think the major problem with platform fighters is that they forget that you're basically just playing king of the hill. so i'd make a game that emphasizes keeping center stage and knocking the other person off the stage to as much as possible instead of performing le ebin chombos.

so a stage with a big area in the middle that you have to claim by being in it for longer than the other player and whoever claims the area wins. you can throw stocks in there if you want, but that's not the primary win condition.

The thing is buffer helps bad players but once you become good enough the buffer becomes more of an obstacle to work around. Smash ultimate is unironically a hard game because you NEED to play with the buffer and then not get fucked by it since you can buffer an airdodge
Off stage a million frames before you’re actionable.

Once you get used to melee it feels so much responsive. You just figure out the action state timings and then the game is untouchable

Honestly I think input lag is a more significant factor for game feel than buffer, if Melee and Ult's input lag were reverse but the buffer systems remained, Ult would feel faster/more responsive imo

I would be totally fine if the input buffer is optional. P+ has the optional 3 frame buffer and it feels worse than without it.

However i will say. When i land something that i know is hard and frame tight i feel like the fucking man swinging my dick everywhere. When i know that theres a buffer and i had a 4 frame wide window to hit something frame perfect it completely takes that away.

Ultimate only has 3 frame delay! Which is only 1 more than melee. Ultimate’s buffer is 10 whole fucking frames and short hop neutral air is the highest priority buffer scenario in that. Which makes short hop aerials that isnt nair fucking insane to do.

That being said the game is designed so short hop nair is generally what you want to do. But it still adds to they feeling of control being taken away.

Here’s some graphs from input integrity. They make the lossless adapter. Input delay on the lossless adapter can be as low as 2.2 frames. OEM gc adapters actually have INCONSISTENT delay it really could be anywhere between 3 and 5 frames of delay on any given input. Yes it is as bad as it sounds. But even then street fighter 4 and 5 have 4 frames of input delay on PC. It doesn't feel nearly as unresponsive as ultimate. Its the 10 frame buffer trying to make assumptions about your inputs

Those graphs are raw data. Ultimate is a low input delay game. The only way to test the inherent input lag of a game is to find the lowest input lag controller you can run tests with a high speed camera.

If the lowest reproducible delay on the fastest adapter is 2.2 frames then ostensibly 2.2 frames is the inherent delay since nothing can input faster than that.

Which considering melee has 2 frame delay on crt means ultimate is actually quite good about it

Because iirc they looked into rollback but items and Final Smashes and whatnot where a reason why they didnt, and whether you like it or not Smash is intended mostly for a casual audience so those aspects are kind of important. They shouldve done rollback and delay based depending on what you want. Have For Fun and For Glory return with delay and rollback respectively, and make it so arenas without certain elements (Stage hazards off, no items, no Smash meter, etc.) would be rollback. That way everyone wins, items and hazards stay usable and theres still rollback for people who want more serious matches.

I got mine when I was 30. I'd say the time it takes to learn depends on how technical of a player you are (the less technical, the easier to pick up since there's less to re-learn) but if you do get one, use it all the time for a solid month and then decide if you wanna go back to gcc or not. Also get the 20MX keyboard switches, feels way better than the sanwa arcade buttons and they last longer too.

it's just not very fun or interesting at a higher level. it really doesn't have much defensive depth beyond moving around like a spazz, and combos are essentially never true because of how powerful drift DI is, which can get frustrating. given i'm not a top player though so i'm not sure if it gets better at the actual peak, but past mid level its just boring

I've read that drift DI wasn't kept for roa2
Hopefully the addition of ledges, shields and grabs provide some balanced defense.
I've played a grand total of 3 hours on roa, but every info I've found about roa2 hypes me a lot, whereas other smash-like just looked incredibly soulless to me from the very first instant
