sometimes I can't tell if the sucking up is because of genuinely bad taste or people just trying to be nice/supportive since there's definitely been evidence of both
although I do believe in a phenomenon where people are either desperate for content about a niche interest or they like an IP so much it supersedes any sense of objective quality because they cherry pick a single aspect in a way that convinces themselves it's good overall
