It brings a reaction check that closes gaps, like a jump
Jumps aren't consistently checkable to the point where you see pros fail to anti air, drive rush should be around the same level of difficulty to deal with
And yes ways of altering your forward momentum should also exist, think of it like a grounded divekick.
However, they shouldn't be as safe, Akuma's heavy knuckle being safe is dumb as fuck
