Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer (1v4) horror game where one player takes on the role of the Killer and four players take on the role of the Survivors. The Survivor's objective is to repair generators and escape. The Killer's objective is to catch the survivors and kill them (except for Rebecca, you impregnate her).

I hate helping torchlight users get out of matches. I run stealth/gens and it just makes me feel bad for the killer because me and the killer are the only ones doing the hard work whilst the looper just spams haste perks and flashlight.

I really think flashlights need to be reworked at this point. They need to make it so they have a chance of shorting out over prolonged periods, or not starting at all. Each rarity would reduce the chance of failures with the iri being like 90% success.

At this point I don't think what's making the game imbalanced is the generic killer perks with DL or CI, but Killers incentive to run these because they're just sick of getting teased by the kind of players I just mentioned. It's similar to Elden Ring PVP; It became shitty because it became so player-sided that invaders had no choice but to run bullshit because fairplay just ended up in humiliation.

The problem is that almost every single core mechanic is fundamentally broken. There's no way to fix it with all the perk dependencies and other nonsense. And behaviornsucks at it anywyas.

I would argue that it's a cyclical problem in that gen-regression and looping are the two methods in which both sides slow eachother down.

The issue being that psychologically it's 4 people antagonising 1, and it is eventually going to get under any killer's skin having a mob fucking with them. If flashlights had a failure chance, it would mean that they are now a gamble and not necessarily carried by a survivor.

If Killers don't have to worry about being baited so much, they will feel less of a necessity to pick the generic /NWO/CI/DL combo. It might not seem like it but killers do like to experiment, and they would have more of an opportunity to do so if being looped wasn't such a guarantee.

NTA but if we're talking psychologically, risk taking generally deminishes as in-group affiliation or identification increases (Chang et al, 2021). Since there will always be more identification between survivors, and to work with the killer is already risky (being reported and banned) its unlikely the risk would deter people.

Thats not to say it wouldn't do anything, but I would assume a low level of variability in shitty survivor behaviour is related to risk taking. This is no doubt affected by if its 'solo vs swf' but since BHVR has discounted most of the advantage swfs have over solo, they're never gonna give us the data to speculate.

Honestly it's not even psychology it's straight fundamental bullshit mechanics at every single level. Optimal playstyles are *all* awful. For killers optimal is hard tunneling because there's zero comeback mechanic. If survs are down to 2 it's optimal to stall because there's zero comeback mechanic. Looping is optimal because every single mechanic of looping disfavors killers. Larger killer hitbox means tightly running around any round object speeds up survivors because their relative circle is smaller. Window vault speeds favor survivors.

Essentially the game is (un)balanced in such a way that both teams do everything in their power to avoid engaging with more fundamental mechanics.

That's why survivors hate doing gens. You're sitting there watching a timer and doing QuickTime events. Killers avoid m1 killers like the plague because good looping is so broken. The game is very fun if you stealth or play a build that doesn't focus on fundamentals. But basic looping or gen shit is broken

Also while I'm at it, there's tons of suboptimal but annoying as fuck mechanics that seem designed to encourage toxicity. Head On, Flashlights, Flashbangs, The Basement, Slugging, The fucking Hatch(for both teams), Body Blocking.

Like I have never seen a Head On user who wasn't a teabagging tool. Just had a game against one with quick and quiet, head on, who would run to a row of lockers after trying to bait me forcing me to choose between 1 of 3 randomly. Still won by not playing his game. But that's the issue. You win by not playing the game. You choose killers who ignore loops, or pallets, or stealth. You pick perks that deny hooks, or stun the killer for playing normally.

Everything is designed to NOT play the game. I love some killers but this game is infinitely better if you play it wrong. 2 hook and let people go. Meme. Do random shit. Don't try to win. And if you do try hard make sure to 2 hook and meme with them after. Because if you play properly you'll make yourself miserable.

Bad take honestly, things like Head on and such are in theory how you provide the highs and lows that well enduring games like TF2 practiced. Flashbangs, as an extended example, take a while to get and the effect of the save should be massive; it provides a peak of thrill in the game.

In practice, you can look at walls and still be hit, you can look for savers but background player means they can be 20 meters away and still get it. Yet, if they DO get it, the killer is on them in 4 seconds usually unless you're in a good place, with a good team. Plus with certain killer perks like forced penance, you're encouraged to tunnel out the saved with little counterplay.

Jank on mechanics making them inconsistent isn't bad but making them feel undeserved is a problem. It leads to your view that its designed to not play the game.

Blight, Pyramid head, demogorgon, Nemo, Huntress are all back and forth killers that require a functioning brain to get their anti loop, requiring more skill, and are actually enjoyable to be hit by.

This honestly sounds like a skill issue. This is also why you should focus more on stealth than looping because any smart killer will know how to eventually catch up. The solution here is to stop trying looping on anti-looping killers, there's plenty of other options to evade killers. Killers might be fast but they also lack the luxury of time, if you play it right you can secretly loop a boulder and not have to deal with them for another minute or two.
