It's only different during ult berserk, and even then it doesn't change it.

Literally the only good thing about the entire mess was Vex and she was super disjointed and basically unrelated in most people eyes because of said issues.

I kept hearing that Viego, despite being the villain, was actually a fan favorite with Vex due to the artwork etc. Not sure how true that is and Riot was malding over the fact that people saw Viego as an anti-hero.

It's to the point now where if I win 3 games in a row I just accept the fact I'm going to lose the next 2 regardless of what I do so I play 4fun champs.
I'm right about 70% of the time. You can "feel" when it's about to happen.
>get good and decent teammates for 3 games

What other company does this to its players? I recall always being able to clutch out a win in Halo 2/3 just by leaning forward and focusing. Now it's like I might as well farm wolves for 20 mins and take the L

A few reasons. Here's some of the big ones:

1. The Ruination event was, in terms of the actual game, just a large skin release. If you were playing a month ago, imagine Soul Fighter without Arena. Now imagine Soul Fighter had multiple cinematics for it over years.

2. The narrative. Rather than using established characters, the Ruination event ultimately hinged on brand new characters. Not obscure characters, NEW characters. People did not have any connection to them, so no one wanted to see someone like Akshan save the day.

3. The conclusion. The event ended abruptly. The problems were solved by the new characters and then it was done. No big climax, it just ended.

People like to talk about the old Star Guardian events as the gold standard, but honestly I think Odyssey was the true peak. If you got to take one of the Sentinels and unlock special skill paths in a PvE campaign then Ruination would've been decent.

This would've applied if EOMM didn't simultaneously put you with autofills, often having those autofills laning against the smurf.
If I'm laning vs the smurf that at least keeps the outcome in my hands and I can learn from the way the smurf beats me when we both started from even ground.
There's nothing for me to learn and no real way of fighting back if the smurf beats the autofill 5/0 before I even get the chance to interact with him.

It has gotten bad even in fucking normals. The game feels unplayable unless you're full premade. This is a part of what made arena good. If you were playing as just 2 people it was the perfect mode. There used to be TT for when you were in a group of 3 but that went away.
I enjoy an odd session of ARAM here and there but if you go for more than just a handful of matches of it you start noticing other issues. In the long run ARAM is too mind numbing to play anyway unless you're am*rican.

The game feels like it's in a genuinely quite well balanced state nowadays when you get a match where everyone is of vaguely similar skill level, playing a champion and role they know how to play and not mental booming over the slightest inconvenience - but somehow those matches are getting exceedingly rare.

If you're able to identify who is/isn't a smurf against who is/isn't a smurf then you already know where and when to apply your pressure. If you're legit average/above average at the game then it means you can extend your lead (however small) to other parts of the map.

Yeah, I get it, if your teammate is 0/5 and the enemy "smurf" (who may legit not be) is just "ahead" then yeah, you're gonna have to exercise your decision making muscles a bit, but to just throw your hands up at every fucking death and say "WELL, THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY SMURFING" isn't accurate in the slightest.

I get it, you want people to just agree with you that some games aren't winnable. You're right, but only to a certain extent.

Viego is a case of having good design intention since they didn't just want Morde but slim and an old bastard would have been too played out. However Viego came out in a time where hot shirtless dude champs were the norm so naturally people were annoyed with his design. If Viego came out back in 2013-2017 nobody would have complained since visual designs were much more varied then.
