What does /p/ do for work? Is it photography related? If not, does photography lend itself to your career somehow?

What's Your Counterargument?

No.4074875 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
What do you think?

=====
Digital changed the landscape. Before the pixel, craft was still an elemental component of the narrative. A process that involved trusting strips of cellulose in a mysterious dark box was replaced by instant, impeccable rendering, in situ on vast monitors. The photographer’s role as sorcerer and custodian of the vision was diminished: The question ‘have we got it?’ became redundant. Now it was the photographer asking the art director asking the client. Which is a big deal. Because the previous dialectic was that you engaged people who brought something to the party you couldn’t provide yourself. Like Magi, the ‘creatives’ brought creativity; photographers, vision. By abdicating those responsibilities to the guy who’s paying, you’re undergoing a sort of self-inflicted castration. A culture of fear and sycophancy develops. Self-worth diminishes, because nobody really likes being a eunuch, even a well-paid one. There’s less currency in having a viewpoint. The answer to the question ‘What have you got to say?’ drifts towards ‘What do you want me to say?’ There’s reward in being generic, keeping one’s vision in one’s pocket. Trouble is, when your vision has spent too long in your pocket, sometimes you reach for it and it’s not there any more."

>there's "people" on this board that think pic human vision can get the same resolution as pic related across its FoV (about 500MP)
>their cones are defective and yet they insist on arguing about color too
I almost want to give up, feels like picking on a retard.

Beginning is reddit tier blogpost. Interesting part starts from 7min.

>sony flies shills to his house to show him presentations, gets invited to presentations, food, alcohol, fancy hotels, all paid
>gets 50,000$ just from affiliate links for sony rx1
>bashes xpro1 for shit AF, gets blacklisted by fuji
>attempted bribe by dji to take out weight comment from vid, declined, doesn't get anything from dji either
>bombshell: earns half a mil just from b&h affiliate links

Wales

No.4077150 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I'm going to Wales next week and I wonder what gear I should bring. I'll mostly do landscape and macro but will probably need most of my photo backpack (Shimoda Explore 30 L) for clothes and stuff. I'll also have to carry my tent, sleeping bag and sleeping mat (altogether 3 kg) so I'd like to keep things down to the essentials.

My options are

>Fuji X-S10
>Fuji X-T20 (the rubber's coming loose so I'd rather send that one in for repair while I'm away)
>Fuji XF 10-24 mm f/4
>Fuji XF 18-55 mm f/2.8-4
>Fuji XF 27 mm f/2.8
>Fuji XF 50 mm f/2
>Fuji XF 55-200 mm f/3.5-5.6
>Fuji XF 80 mm f/2.8 macro
>Gitzo Traveler GT2545 travel tripod
>Leofoto LS223C mini tripod
>Novoflex macro rail (it'll likely be cold in the mornings so I'm tempted to bring it but it's heavy as fuck)
>Godox macro flash + XPro trigger
>Wimberley plamp

My plan is to hike about 20 km per day and shoot on the hike. I will start in Bangor and work my way south towards Abergavenny, but I haven't booked anything beyond day 1 yet and will likely make up my plans on the go. I'll be in Cardiff on the last 2-3 days to meet some friends, so the 50 mm f/2 would be nice to have with me but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Thoughts? Also tips for things to photograph other than Snowdon/Cader Idris?

Will be posting old (South) Wales pics so that this doesn't devolve into a pure gear thread. Pic related is on the way up to Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons, I love these pastoral 18th century landscapes
