As for reference material? The Chilton repair manual I have has been indispensable for the vast majority of the things we've had to do with Jeeps, but then its also the only one I've had to use so I can't really draw comparisons between it and say for instance Haynes and whatnot.
My Jeep has just over 180k miles on it and aside from a few minor standard repairs and replacements it hasn't given me much grief (most of the repairs I've mentioned were done on my father's Jeep), so aside from being more utility than comfortable, its done me well enough for what I use it for.
I don't know what I would choose for an "If I were rich" car since I don't drive much, aside from silly things like tanks.
