Of course the US will have more deaths than most Euro countries, they have like five times the population of most of the bigger European countries. It's why places like Belgium and Netherlands can be considered to be doing worse than UK, since despite have less cases and deaths, their death rate per population is way higher.
Total cases isn't completely accurate either, since you have some countries, like the UK, who will only test people admitted into hospital with symptoms, and then you have others like Germany who are planning to test everyone.
