I seriously doubt the penetrative ability of a single 9x18mm Makarov shot to the head and there's no way it would drop a cow instantly.
It would, in all actuality start freaking the fuck out and I think it would probably die of blood loss or an infection.
Do you just know how much more mass (and length) a captive bolt has compared to a pistol caliber bullet?
