If someone can manipulate information on a small scale through free speech, a Government can manipulate information on a mass scale should they be allowed to do so. It's like what the Nazi Government did, Head of Propaganda ordered the mass production of cheap radios in the early Nazi regime so that every household had a radio. The radios were purposely made short range so that international broadcasts were limited, especially in the center of Germany. And what was played on every frequency? Hitler speeches and Nationalistic music. They could straight up tell the people anything, no matter how true or utterly false and they would have to swallow it because there was no such thing as any other information source.
