Due to colocation being the datacenter providing the space and facility but not the actual server, that would be an absolutely insane initial cost. Something like like $8k in total for my dream setup. I hate how expensive rackmount servers are new.
The difference in price is massive, like, I had a 1U rackmount server I kept in my basement that I got used for $60, the same model without the hard drives was like $1200. The 24 drive slot model I'd want is $5000 without hard drives and the hard drives would cost an additional $2800.
I think I'll be sticking with the managed solutions for the near future, only when I plan on doing something stupid like taking desustorage would I ever consider such an option, and even then I would be better off getting multiple servers to distribute load.
