YIIK has some issues with storytelling, it tries to go like a VN where it's introspective but because the protag is voicing it and the character model is saying it, it's like he's saying it all out loud in the moment, in past tense.
The video game itself has combat that isn't fun (timed attacks in a very small window for both attacks and dodging). The healing is laughable, every item is a percentage heal so even at level 1 you need to use 3-4 items just to heal 10 HP.
The game tries for 90s references on top of things that don't make sense in the timeline (hipsters and liberal arts majors as punchlines). The main character is awful but the game devs defend that saying he's supposed to be at the beginning.
For some reason the panda is his best friend and he talks to it, but he knows it's a toy(?) so I'm pretty sure he's a preteen child based on it and
